Commercial Arbitrator & Mediator

Commercial Arbitration & Mediation

Albert M. Appel

Albert Appel is an experienced arbitrator and mediator specializing in a wide range of commercial and healthcare disputes. His forty-plus years as a commercial litigator and health law advisor and litigator, including as a former partner of Stroock & Stroock & Lavan LLP, has provided in-depth knowledge of a vast array of substantive areas of law as well as the dispute resolution process and healthcare industry, and has allowed him to become well-established in the arena of alternative dispute resolution (“ADR”).

Mr. Appel has been an arbitrator and mediator for more than 15 years. He is on the panels of neutrals maintained by the American Arbitration Association, the American Health Lawyers Association, the International Institute for Conflict Prevention and Resolution (“CPR”), and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. He has received significant professional recognition for his activities and achievements, including election as a Fellow of the American College of e-Neutrals, listings in numerous editions of Best Lawyers of America, Super Lawyers, Crain’s Who’s Who, Martindale Hubbell, Marquis Who’s Who (including as a Lifetime Achiever), and accreditation as MCIArb by the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (London). Mr. Appel has written and lectured on topics of arbitration and health law, and has served on the faculty of a comprehensive arbitration training program sponsored by the New York State Bar Association.

Mr. Appel’s litigation and ADR experience, together with regularly attended ADR educational programs, has provided valuable experience and insight that enables him to efficiently, expeditiously and economically conduct arbitrations, avoid the pitfalls of full-blown litigation, utilize arbitration best practices, and ensure fairness to the parties with a full opportunity to present their cases. He believes that the hallmark of a well-conducted arbitration is one that, at an early stage, sets out a road-map for the proceeding so there is clarity of what is expected of the parties, surprises and delays are avoided and a reasonable arbitration schedule is established. Mr. Appel takes the trust and confidence placed in him by the parties with the greatest sense of responsibility. He is highly responsive to the parties’ needs and agreements on how to conduct an arbitration or mediation, and strongly believes that parties are entitled to full attention and prompt action under all circumstances. Mr. Appel’s ultimate goal is to provide the parties with a fair and efficient process that is specifically tailored to the needs of the particular matter before him.
